In the Company of a Vigneron

Have you ever wondered how wine is made?  Or wish you instinctively knew what qualifies a wine to be a 'superior/inferior' product?

With little or no experience, to those with an extensive knowledge of wine our Private Wine Tour is an all-encompassing opportunity to experience a working Domaine and learn directly from a vigneron, how to 'taste' wine.

Your informative and entertaining tour of 2 hours approx. will lead you on a discovery of 'what life for a vigneron involves'.  It isn't all hard work as you will soon learn when you are invited to participate in la dégustation, the wine tasting.

What to Expect

A warm welcome and introduction to the Domaine by the vigneron will start your Vineyard Discovery and with a sense of humour to match his excellent English you can expect to pass a thoroughly entertaining visit.

Concluding in la salle de dégustation for a wine-tasting, your knowledge and understanding of wine will be enhanced as you sample the diverse and highly referenced range of the Domaines wines.

Stepping into the vines you will learn about the different variety of grapes used to produce the white, rosé and reds wines and how the soil trace elements contribute to the distinctive taste of the Saumur wines.

Venturing into les caves, methods of wine production from bygone years will be revealed, as will the timely methode traditionelle used to produce the fresh sparkling Brut wines enjoyed in this region. 

Whilst absorbing what you are seeing and learning you won't fail to notice the delicious aroma of the oak barrels aging wines for a future date.

Lastly, a peek at where the magic truly happens, le chai !  Home to the vast cuves.  The cuves house the freshing picked grapes and see them through their transition from crushing, their alchemy, to the moment of bottling.

La Dégustation

A tour wouldn't be complete without an invitation into the comfort of la salle de dégustation for a wine tastingTime will be taken to explore and discuss the Domaines diverse range of wines, some of which will have taken up to 4 years to prepare.

The complexity of each wine will be carefully explained, as will the importance of the wines aroma and appearance.  Guidance on the wines taste and its affect on the tongue are especially important. 

Under Géralds expert supervision you will soon recognise the slight differences, notes and changes in the wines gôut, enhancing your understanding and appreciation of one of natures natural phenomenons.
